Job interviews do reveal the meaning of life, I think. They are so grueling and soul-crushing that you start to question the meaning of it all. Do you even want a job? There’s something poetic in it all.

I wouldn’t assume anyone would eat a pepper sandwich, but then Triscuit does make a pepper flavor. It basically tastes like a handful of pepper dumped on top of a cracker. It’s every bit as disgusting as it sounds.
I like that Billy looks like he’ll be sick long after this sandwich.

One of the fun things about doing a comic strip is getting to have people butcher quotes. I’m not sure why we do it so often, except it makes us laugh in real life, too.
Plus, the strip serves as a mini history lesson. Sort of.

It probably should come as no big shock that we’re enjoying mocking Flynn Speck more than any real pundit. Don’t read too deeply into this strip and our political leanings, because I assure you there’s nothing deep to them.
I like that Professor Hobo appears to be eating lunch from an elementary school cafeteria. That seems about right.

I’m intrigued by where Microsoft takes this franchise next. Halo: Reach is a great game, but I’m not sure a new developer can do much but ruin the perfect balance they currently have. I think Halo is more about balance than just about any other game series currently out there (except maybe a fighting game like Street Fighter).
This strip went through several rewrites before finally settling on this version. One of the other versions was simply an expanded version of this strip, but the joke felt like it went on too long.

I long ago gave up on explaining any video game to a non-player. The truth is that most are beyond ridiculous when given a moment or two of thought.
It’s also always enjoyable to note that you’re the bad guy when you think you’re the hero.

There’s a strange continuity we try to keep in the Professor Hobo series. Now, we don’t succeed at all in keeping it, but if you look to the first panel you’ll note that it’s Evil Beard turning up as a hippie for the second time in a strip. Why? Why not?
I’m sure some will get bent out of shape saying this strip is unfair to gamers and Halo: Reach, and they’re right. There, we said it. Now you don’t have to.

Sometimes the best comic ideas come from real conversations. In this case, the core idea came from a conversation about how many games played as a child are kind of mean. I like the idea of a philosophical take on such games that is both pretentious and scarily on target.

Academic arguments are always the funniest when they’re just barely wrong. You agree with Professor Hobo that it almost makes sense, and then in the same instant Jimmy undermines his own credibility. Self-defeatism is at the core of most comedy.
