I’ve heard several black people say they find Black History Month frustrating. On one hand it is a great celebration that even gets businesses involved with special advertising touting the contributions of black Americans. On the other hand, it does seem to limit our exposure to black history to just one month a year. My personal concern is the Ricks of the world.
HOBO: Yes, Rick?
RICK: I understand the history of slavery and racism in this country. I know that black people have been really oppressed. In general, my race has stood in the way of progress among black people for hundreds of years in both subtle and overt manners. And I'm ashamed of it all.
RICK: But what I don't get is how we kept them from doing anything historical except in February?
