I’m always amused at a meeting how many ideas sound suspiciously like plot lines from the past week in television. The people who write TV tend to be quite clever, so this isn’t always a bad thing. However, there are some shows you shouldn’t look to for inspiration. Law & Order and Breaking Bad are two such examples.
There’s probably a good chance many religions were started over coffee while discussing pastries. If you’re slightly concerned, just ask yourself how often your religion involves eating frosting?
I like the word alien and its many connotations in modern use. Illegal aliens, little green men aliens, alien object present in the body…okay, that last one was a little weird. But trust me, if you’ve ever watched Bones or CSI you’ve heard that phrase.

Here’s an interesting dilema: who do you root for in this strip? The old lady is obviously nuts, but Dr. Klownus and Mr. Mittens are obviously jerks, and also evil if you read this comic on a regular basis. This might make a good argument for strategic nuclear strikes.
I feel sorry for retail employees. No, it’s not the poor wages or thankless work that garners my sympathy. I feel bad for all the customers they have to deal with. I have to interact with these people for short random encounters. They have to deal with them all day. I doubt most customers are this way, but I assume it’s enough.
I actually own a cat that resembles a lemur. There’s not much point to you knowing that, except I think I could potentially pass it off as one to a really stupid person. I think doing the opposite might also be possible. Also, lemurs are cute and this is kind of a mean comic since we never actually show you that cuteness. We’re jerks like that.
No, I do not know anyone who determines grades this way. Do I think some professors like like trying it at points? Sure, but let’s just hope they’re generally an ethical lot. Still, determining final grades in a sort of Price Is Right format might be fun for both student and teacher. Plinko might improve several GPAs.
I’m ever so slightly amused by the knee jerk reactions among left and right devotees. I also enjoy taking Dr. Klownus from being a best selling author in panel one, to resenting his own work in panel three. It’s a perfect example of his self-loathing.
As an academic, I often find that often the things I write about or discuss in class conflict with the social mores of the church. There’s a weird disconnect here that I imagine a lot of religious academics face. If you’re one of them, let us know how you handle it.
